STEAM Support Staff (Part-time)

COGNITION of Davie County, Inc. (Cognition) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in downtown Mocksville, NC.  COGNITION is an interactive space for children, families, and the community to acquire knowledge through adventurous play, investigative learning, and creative growth. COGNITION is currently searching for energetic and engaging employees with the ability and interest to work part-time within various departments including Visitor Experience, Exhibit Space, Makerspace, Educational Programs, and Community Outreach efforts. Applicants must be available during business hours Wednesday-Friday, with some evenings and weekends required. 


Position Requirements

  • Experience & desire to work with children in an informal learning environment 
  • Display a hard working, self-motivated attitude.  
  • Display excellent customer service skills.
  • Willingness to follow cleaning protocols.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and grow as a member of COGNITION
  • Ability to work 10-15 hours/week with some Saturdays and occasional evenings. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Greet and check-in visitors; staff front desk when needed.
  • Answer and direct phone calls and inquiries.
  • Assist Site Coordinator with delivery of programs, and facilitation of birthday parties, event rentals, school field trips, etc.
  • Engage with varied audiences (families, schools, general public, seniors) one-on-one to bring exhibits and Makerspace to life.
  • Assist with activity stations, classes, and summer camps for group programs. 
  • General support and assisting with tasks and cleaning protocol as needed.

Position Details 

This position will report to the Site Coordinator. Work schedule can be flexible but will require availability during the week with a few Saturdays per month and occasional evenings.  Please send a cover letter and resume to with subject heading: STEAM Support Staff.
